Dr Fiona McEwen graduated in Veterinary Medicine and Surgery, and Neuroscience, and worked as a veterinary surgeon for the PDSA. She was interested in the association between cruelty to animals and family violence and carried out research looking at whether childhood cruelty to animals is a marker for child maltreatment. I was an MRC Fellow in the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) and produced a briefing document for parliamentarians on the topic of animal cruelty, child abuse and domestic violence. She also interested in moral and ethical aspects of animal research: She speak and write on this topic and She was a Vice-President of the Institute of Animal Technology.
