Fiona Loud is the Policy Director for the British Kidney Patient Association. Co-author of the Kidney Health: Delivering Excellence report on the future of kidney care, 10 years after the renal National Service Framework was created. Past Director of the former Kidney Alliance, an umbrella organization that brought together the main patient and professional charities in kidney care. She worked with and on behalf of the Alliance to promote the prevention and early identification of kidney disease, and high-quality treatment for all patients at risk from or identified with kidney failure on an equal and uniform basis throughout the UK. She meets and works with policymakers and Parliamentarians to inform and influence the development and implementation of Government policy relating to kidney care.

Fiona is lay chair of the local Organ Donation Committee for West Hertfordshire. She is also chair of her local Kidney Patient Association and a member of the East of England Renal Project Board. She works to promote kidney health and awareness wherever possible including in the media and in educational DVDs. She uses her experience with kidney disease to inform her work.

Fiona has been and is on a number of NICE Guideline Development and Topic Expert Groups including that which developed CKD Quality Standards in 2011. She is passionate about Quality Improvement and self-care and has contributed to research in this area. On behalf of the Kidney Alliance, she has led the national World Kidney Day events for several years, including parliamentary receptions and media promotion.

Fiona spent 5 years on dialysis after her kidneys failed before receiving a transplant from her husband six years ago. Her background is in IT management, software support and development, and project management; it includes IT training and e-learning. She has a degree in English.
