Dr. Federico Martinon-Torres is currently the Head of Pediatrics and Director of Translational Pediatrics and Infectious Diseases at the Santiago Clinic Hospital, Spain. He is also an Associate Professor in Pediatrics at the University of Santiago and a member of the Royal Academy of Medicine and Surgery of Galicia, Spain. FMT obtained his medical degree from the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain in 1995. He obtained further training at the Hope Children’s Hospital of Chicago, Chicago, USA, and the Children’s Memorial Hospital of Chicago, before returning to Santiago de Compostela, where he received his Ph.D. in 2005. Associate Professor Martinón-Torres is a member of the European Technical Advisory Group of Experts (ETAGE) of the WHO/Europe group and coordinates the WHO collaborating center in Spain on vaccine safety.

He has published over 250 articles (impact factor 1200 JCR2018), seven books, and 150 book chapters. His main research interests include vaccines, meningococcal disease, rotavirus, pneumococcal disease, HPV, bronchiolitis, and respiratory syncytial virus. He is coordinating or has participated as a lead investigator in 30 ongoing trials and research projects and is also a member of over 20 international societies, including the Respiratory Syncytial Virus Network (ReSViNET). He currently coordinates the Spanish Network of Pediatric Clinical Trials (RECLIP) and co-coordinates the Translational Research Network in Infectious Diseases, as well as the Genetics, Vaccines, Infections, and Pediatrics Research Group at the Healthcare Research Institute of Santiago, Spain.
