Dr Fay Betsou, PhD, HDR, Chief Biospecimen Science at IBBL since 2010, is a molecular biologist with over 15 years of experience in molecular diagnostics, disease-oriented biobanking and biospecimen research, and over 8 years of experience in quality control application to biobanks. She holds a PhD in molecular microbiology and a habilitation in immunophysiopathology, molecular diagnostics and biostatistics from the Université René Descartes (Paris V). At IBBL, Dr. Betsou is directing a research team that develops and validates experimental protocols and quality control tools for the collection and storage of high-quality human biospecimens. She is also engaged in a number of international collaborations in biospecimen research and pre-clinical proficiency testing programmes.

Dr. Betsou has also served on the Editorial Board for Biopreservation and Biobanking, the official scientific journal of ISBER. According to Dr. Betsou, she wants to “reinforce the scientific character of ISBER (e.g. scientific publications, research projects, biobank accreditation).” She plans to promote ongoing activities, including the Certified Repository Technician programme and the Proficiency Testing programme.
