Fatma Yulek After graduating from Ankara Ataturk Anadolu High School in 1991, she ranked among the top 100 in the university entrance exam and enrolled in Hacettepe University Faculty of Medicine in English. From 1997 to 1999, she worked as a pediatric assistant in the Department of Pediatrics at Hacettepe University. In 1999, she transferred to the Department of Ophthalmology at Gazi University and obtained her specialization in ophthalmology in 2004. She then started working at Ankara Ataturk City Hospital.
In 2008, she had the opportunity to participate in a European Union project on in-service training on the topic of Grundwig, during which she spent time at Moorfields Hospital in London, specifically in the pediatric glaucoma and pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus clinics. From February 2006 to December 2007, she received neuro-ophthalmology training at Hacettepe University Institute of Neurological Sciences and Psychiatry. In 2012, she spent time in the glaucoma department at Harvard University’s Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. In our clinic, she has been involved in the follow-up and treatment of pediatric ophthalmology in addition to glaucoma patients.
She started working as an associate professor at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University in 2012. From 2015 to 2022, she completed the Biomedical Engineering doctoral program at Hacettepe University. Between 2015 and 2016, she received clinical fellowship training in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Stein Eye Institute. In 2018, she moved to Ankara Bilkent City Hospital. In this new clinic, she primarily focused on pediatric ophthalmology, strabismus, and neuro-ophthalmology, following up with patients in these fields. In recent years, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic, she has been involved in efforts to prevent the increase in myopia in children, which has seen a rise in cases.”
