Professor Fasséli Coulibaly is recognised for his contributions to understanding viral assembly with a focus on large virus particles and virus-containing crystals.

Professor Coulibaly graduated in 2003 with a Ph.D in structural biology from the University of Paris-Sud, followed by four years as a research fellow at the University of Auckland. In 2008, he joined Monash University in Melbourne where he is now an Associate Professor in the Biomedicine Discovery Institute.

Professor Coulibaly’s research revolves around biology and engineering of viruses relevant to health and biotechnology, particularly large DNA viruses. His laboratory currently uses advanced structural biology to investigate the membrane morphogenesis of poxviruses and the structure-function of in vivo crystals involved in the virulence of insect viruses.
