Farhana Karachi studied BSc Physiotherapy at the University of Cape Town and completed her Masters in Physiotherapy at Stellenbosch University in 2006 while employed as a Junior Physiotherapy Clinician at Tygerberg Hospital. In 2004 she was employed as a Senior Physiotherapy Clinician in Orthopaedics and Neuromusculoskeletal Therapy at Tygerberg Hospital. She also worked in private practice through the course of her career. In 2005 she visited Melbourne, Australia to attend and present the results of her Master’s Thesis entitled: Survival and HRQoL of surgical ICU patients 12 months following discharge at the 9th International Cardiothoracic Conference.

Ms. Karachi was employed as a Physiotherapy Lecturer at UWC in November 2006. During this period at UWC she has attended and presented at the following conferences/congresses: Care is Critical - South African Critical Care Congress (Bloemfontein, 2006), South African Society of Physiotherapy National Congress – Making Waves in Physiotherapy Education (Durban, 2007), International Physiotherapy Congress – Broadening/Expanding the Horizons of Knowledge –(Pretoria, 2008), South African Society of Physiotherapy Congress, The Full Circle – Educate and Exercise (Somerset West, Cape Town, 2009), and attended: The bottom line – Critical Care Society of Southern Africa Refresher Course (V& A Waterfront, Cape Town, 2010). Ms. Karachi is currently working towards a PhD in Physiotherapy related to Intensive care physiotherapy and evidence-based practice change implementation.
