Professor Faisal Ahmed graduated from the University of Edinburgh and received the bulk of his clinical and academic training at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh, University of Edinburgh and at Addenbrookes Hospital and the University of Cambridge. In 2000, he was appointed as a consultant at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Yorkhill, Glasgow and in 2007 he was awarded the Leonard Gow lectureship at the University of Glasgow. In 2012, Professor Ahmed was appointed to the Samson Gemmell Chair of Child Health at the University of Glasgow. Professor Ahmed leads the Developmental Endocrinology Research Group which has a focus on understanding disorders of endocrine function that present in early life. In addition he coordinates the International DSD Registry which facilitates international research and clinical networks. Professor Ahmed is the chair of the Clinical Committee of the British Society for Paediatric Endocrinology & Diabetes and the coordinator of the European Society for Paediatric Endocrinology’s Summer School as well as its DSD Working Group Professor Ahmed also sits on the MRC’s clinical training and career development panel.
