Dr. Fabrizio De Rita graduated in medicine from the University of Brescia, Italy, in 2007. He completed a residency in cardiac surgery at the University of Verona, Italy, in 2013.
Mr. Fabrizio De Rita has been a fellow in congenital heart surgery at Freeman Hospital Newcastle under Mr. Asif Hasan and Mr. Massimo Griselli (2013 – 2014). He has subsequently been a fellow in pediatric heart surgery at Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin Dublin under Mr. Lars Nolke and Prof Mark Redmond (2014 – 2015).
Mr. De Rita is a consultant in congenital heart surgery at Freeman Hospital Newcastle since January 2016 and is the clinical lead for congenital heart surgery since May 2019.
Mr. De Rita is internationally recognized for his expertise in heart transplantation and ventricular assist devices in children and adults with congenital heart disease. He is a member of EACTS, BCCA, and ISHTL. He is chairman of the European Excor pediatric investigator group (EEPIG) since 2018 and he is the international proctor for the implantation of the Berlin heart Excor ventricular assist device since 2020.
Mr. De Rita is one of the principal investigators, in collaboration with berlin heart, for the design, animal testing, and production of a new ventricular assist device cannula (Fontan cannula) to support the failing Fontan circulation.
His research interest includes Cardiothoracic Surgery, Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery, Heart Transplantation, Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, Congenital Heart Disease, and Adult Congenital Heart Disease.
