Fabrizio Di Benedetto had his surgical education in Milan and started his academic career in Modena. In 2007, he joined the Master's in Hepatic Pancreatic and Biliary Cancers (“Diplome d’Université”), Onco-surgical Strategies at Hopital Paul Brousse, Villejuif, France. Currently, he is a full professor of surgery at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, where he directs the hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery and liver transplantation unit, being in charge of the kidney transplant program, and he is also Program Director of the General Surgery Residency Program at the University of Modena. He started a prolific HPB robotic program in 2014, reaching important milestones like the first full robotic ALPPS for hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma, and counting nowadays over 300 HPB robotic procedures.

The program was further enriched in 2019 with the introduction of kidney procurement for LDKT and also robotic kidney transplant, and in 2022 with the first two cases of robotic donor hepatectomy for living donor liver transplantation. He is Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, leader of the Pancreas Study Group of ISLS, participate in the Special Interest Group of ILTS “Advanced Techniques in Hepatobiliary Surgery”, and he is member of the board of the Italian registry of minimally invasive liver surgery (IgoMILS) and faculty of the School of Robotic Surgery in Grosseto. Robotic liver and pancreatic surgery, living donor liver transplant, and transplant oncology are currently the fields of research of Prof. Di Benedetto.
