F. Todd Wetzel, MD, Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Neurosurgery at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, and an attending physician at Temple University Hospital, has been named President of the North American Spine Society for a one-year term. The North American Spine Society (NASS) is a multidisciplinary medical organization dedicated to fostering the highest quality, evidence-based and ethical spine care by promoting education, research and advocacy.

During his tenure, Dr. Wetzel has identified several goals for the coming year that will help improve spine care globally and support NASS members. Those include: advance NASS’ reputation as the premier spine society; maintain its leadership on ethical issues; continuously improve the services NASS provides to its members; expand NASS’ widening international reach; and grow NASS’ advocacy efforts on behalf of patients and members. Board-certified in Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr. Wetzel earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at Harvard University and his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania. He completed a General Surgery Internship and Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Yale University in New Haven, CT, and a Spinal Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship at Tulane University and St. Charles General Hospital in New Orleans, LA.
