Dr. Barber is a native of Oklahoma where he excelled in sports and academics in high school, was a member of the state championship swim team, was selected to attend Boys State and spent his senior year in Madrid, Spain. He was then awarded a four-year Army ROTC scholarship and attended Oklahoma State University, where he graduated with honors.

Dr. Barber received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX and completed orthopedic surgery training at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. He continued to serve as an officer of the U.S. Army and was Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at military hospital’s in both Germany and at Ft. Knox, Kentucky as well as the Chief of Foot Surgery at William Beaumont Army Medical Center. He left the Army with the rank of Lt. Colonel after having received the U.S. Army Surgeon General’s Physician Recognition Award.
