Dr. Evelinn A. Borrayo is the associate director of research (2016-present) at the Latino Research and Policy Center (LRPC) and served previously as the executive director (2011-2016). Appointed by Governor John W. Hickenlooper in 2016, Dr. Borrayo is currently serving a four-year term as one of nine voting members of the Colorado Board of Health.

Dr. Borrayo trained in clinical health psychology at the University of North Texas (1999). She is currently a professor in the Department of Psychology at Colorado State University (CSU) and has a secondary appointment as a professor in the Department of Community & Behavioral Health at the Colorado School of Public Health. She began collaborating with the LRPC in 2000 as a research associate from CSU, leading several research projects as a junior investigator funded by the National Cancer Institute and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. As the LRPC director, she was funded to conduct health disparities projects by the FORD Foundation (2012-2014), the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE, 2015-2018), and the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI, 2017-2020).

Dr. Borrayo’s research focuses on health disparities in the prevention, control, and treatment of cancer among medically underserved Latinos. Her research projects have focused on the psychological, cultural, and social factors involved in cancer prevention and control and in the treatment of lung and head-and-neck cancers among Latinas and Latinos affected by these cancers. She conducts research in both community-based and medical settings.
