Prof. Dr. Evelina Tacconelli, MD, PhD, is a Professor of Infectious Diseases at the University of Verona. She is the director of the Infectious Diseases Section at Verona University Hospital. Consultant on infectious diseases research for the University of Tübingen, Germany. Coordinated the WHO priority list of antibiotic-resistant bacteria for the research and development of new effective antibiotics and the WHO project on limitations of estimates of the burden of antibiotic-resistant infections within the GLASS (Global Surveillance of Resistant Severe Infections) project. Chair of the European Committee for Infection Control (EUCIC), and WHO and ECDC consultant for infection control and antimicrobial stewardship. The chief author of the ESCMID guidelines for the management and control of infections due to MDR-Gram negatives and the EUCIC guidelines for the decolonization of MDR-gram negatives. Long history in participation and coordination of European projects and networks focused on antimicrobial resistance. Leader and coordinator of ORCHESTRA (GA n° 101016167), a research project funded by the Horizon 2020 Program aimed at establishing an international large-scale cohort for collecting retrospective and prospective data to better inform the prevention and treatment of COVID-19, and to improve preparedness for future pandemics. Coordinator of the Italian working group on optimizing antibiotics’ prescriptions for AIFA, the Italian Medicine Agency.
