Evangelos J. Giamarellos-Bourboulis was born in 1971 in Athens, Greece; MD, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases at the University of Athens, Medical School, Greece, in recognition of his outstanding achievements in immunomodulatory therapy of Gram-negative sepsis with clarithromycin.

Dr. Evangelos Giamarellos-Bourboulis will be presented his award during the ESCMID Awards Ceremony on Sunday, 17 May 2009 by Giuseppe Cornaglia, ESCMID President, and Ragnar Norrby, Chairman of the ESCMID Awards Subcommittee. On Monday, 18 May, he will give a talk during the ESCMID Young Investigator Awards Session on ‘The need for immune intervention in sepsis: novel perspectives with clarithromycin.
