Eugene R. Bleecker MD

Dr. Eugene R. Bleeker, MD, joined the University of Arizona faculty in January 2017 as a professor of medicine; co-chief of the Division of Genetics, Genomics and Precision Medicine, Department of Medicine, UA College of Medicine – Tucson; and co-director of the Division of Pharmacogenomics, Center for Applied Genetics and Genomic Medicine, University of Arizona Health Sciences. Prior to that, he was a professor and director of the Center for Human Genomics and Personalized Medicine Research, the Thomas H Davis Professor of Pulmonary Medicine, and professor of translational sciences at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, N.C. He also was a professor of public health and pediatrics at Wake Forest University Health Sciences. Dr. Bleecker earned his medical degree at the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center, in Brooklyn, N.Y. He was an intern and resident in internal medicine at the State University of New York, Kings County Hospital, Downstate Medical Center, and a resident at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md. He completed a fellowship at the NIH Gerontology Research Center, as well as a fellowship in pulmonary diseases and critical care medicine at the Department of Medicine and the Cardiovascular Research Institute at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Bleecker is a member of several professional societies and is a Fellow of The Royal College of Physicians, American College of Physicians, American College of Chest Physicians, and American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. He is the author or co-author of more than 350 abstracts and more than 310 scientific manuscripts, reviews, and book chapters.
