Dr Etienne Nel is the Head of the Pediatric Gastroenterology Service at Tygerberg Hospital and the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences of Stellenbosch University. He has developed the pediatric gastroenterology service at Tygerberg Hospital. Present research interests include intestinal disease in HIV infected children, improving the outcome of severe acute malnutrition, and infectious diseases of the liver and intestine affecting children in South Africa.
