Dr. Etie Moghissi, MD, FACP, FACE is Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine and a consultant in Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism in Marina del Rey California. Her areas of expertise include endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolic disorders. She is board certified in Internal medicine and endocrinology.

A native of Shiraz, Iran, she completed her internal medicine training in 1979 at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital, affiliated with Columbia University in New York, NY. She subsequently completed a fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, CA.

Dr. Moghissi’s primary interest is improving the metabolic control of patients with diabetes and other endocrine disorders through cutting edge knowledge and technology and the implementation of these management strategies through patient and professional education. And with over 25 years of clinical practice, she continues to maintain the highest standards of personalized endocrine care in a friendly and courteous environment.

Dr. Moghissi has been engaged in medical leadership positions locally and nationally over the past twenty years and has served as the Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and the President-Elect of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology, as well as the President of the California Chapter of AACE. She has also served on multiple hospital governing boards in her community.

She played a pivotal role in creating Diabetes Education Day for Primary Care, a program initially sponsored by the California Chapter of AACE that is designed to help improve care for individuals with diabetes by promoting collaboration between endocrinologists and their primary care physician colleagues. The success of this program in California led to its expansion at the national level in 2009. To date, this program has reached more than 10,000 primary care physicians and allied health care professionals in different communities in the United States.

Dr. Moghissi is also a frequent lecturer and has published a number of important articles in leading diabetes medical journals. She has been actively involved in the creation and publication of diabetes practice guidelines, much of which revolves around diabetes care in both the outpatient and hospital setting. She was the leading author of “AACE/ADA Position Statement on Inpatient Diabetes Care,” published in Diabetes Care and Endocrine Practice in 2009. She has presented at the Scientific Sessions of the America Association of Clinical Endocrinologist, American Diabetes Association and the Endocrine Society.
