Ethan LazarusMD, FOMA
Dr. Lazarus joined the Clinical Nutrition Center in 2004. He has expertise not only in medically-supervised weight loss and chronic weight management, but also in the management of other weight-related medical problems like type II diabetes, hypothyroidism, high cholesterol, high blood pressure management, and depression treatment. He understands that weight problem are NOT the result of laziness or lack of willpower. He helps his patients harness their motivation and willpower by giving them the best evidence-based tools to achieve success.
Dr. Lazarus took center stage at the American Medical Association’s annual meeting and was instrumental in the passage of AMA policy recognizing obesity as a disease on June 18th, 2013. This decision paves the way to improve medical education regarding obesity, reduce weight bias among physicians and among others, evaluate prevention strategies, research better treatment options, and improve insurance reimbursement of obesity treatment.
Dr. Lazarus understands that every person he treats has a unique set of circumstances that has resulted in the weight problem. No two individuals gained weight for the same reason. Therefore, every person requires an individualized weight loss program. Some people gain weight for emotional reasons – depression, boredom, loneliness, stress, a bad relationship, insecurity, or even abuse.
