Esper A. Cavalheiro is President of the National Research Council of Brazil and Professor of Experimental Neurology at Escola Paulista de Medicina in São Paulo, Brazil.
Dr. Cavalheiro received the M.D. and Ph.D. from Escola Paulista de Medicina. He also completed post-doctoral studies at Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, in France and the Universitá degli Studi di Roma.
Dr. Cavalheiro served as the 1999 Ambassador for Epilepsy, International League against Epilepsy. He has received a number of major awards, including the Basic Medical Sciences Award from the Third World Academy of Sciences (1998), the Milken Award (American Epilepsy Society, 1997) and Germany’s Michael Prize (the Michael Foundation, 1984).
His epilepsy-related activities include serving as secretary-general of the IBE. He has also served as president of the Brazilian Association of Epilepsy and currently serves as president of the Neurobiology Commission of ILAE.
