Dr. Esmeralda Ramirez-Pena joined BSR’s Office of Data Resources and Analytics (ODRA) as a Program Officer. She is working on initiatives that facilitate real-world data linkages to support research on aging. Dr. Ramirez-Pena’s research focuses on generating real-world evidence to address the complex healthcare needs of nursing home residents, particularly those with Alzheimer’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease-related dementias (AD/ADRD), as well as patients with comorbidities like cancer.
Before joining the NIA, Dr. Ramirez-Peña was a Cancer Prevention Fellow at the National Cancer Institute (NCI), where she worked with the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) program to develop methods for the quality assessment of the registry’s first collection of cancer recurrence data from electronic health records and its linkage with pharmacy claims. Dr. Ramirez-Peña obtained her PhD in Biomedical Sciences from The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and her MPH degree from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
