Esmaiel Jabbari received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering, M.S. degrees in Chemical Engineering, and Chemistry from Virginia Tech, and his Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University. His past industrial, academic, and clinical experiences include research fellowship at Monsanto Biotechnology, Faculty of Biomedical Engineering at Tehran Polytechnic Institute, visiting professorship at Rice University, and Senior Research Scientist at the orthopedic research division of Mayo Clinic.

He is currently a tenured associate professor of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at the University of South Carolina and director of biomimetic materials and tissue engineering laboratory. His research interests include biomimetic and bioinspired materials, self-assembled nanomaterials, hydrogels for encapsulation of stem cells and embryonic cells, bone tissue engineering, and growth factor delivery. He received the Berton Rahn Award in Orthopedic Research from the AO Foundation in 2012 and the Stephen Milam Award in Maxillofacial Research from the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation in 2008.
