Erinn Downs DO

Erinn Downs, D.O., is a board-certified anatomic and clinical pathologist at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona, with subspecialty expertise in breast pathology, gastrointestinal pathology, hepatobiliary pathology, and pancreatic pathology. She specializes in the diagnosis of benign and malignant breast diseases, gastrointestinal tumors, liver disorders, and complex surgical pathology specimens, working closely with multidisciplinary cancer teams to provide precise diagnoses that guide personalized patient care.

Dr. Downs earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Biology from Northern Michigan University before receiving her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed an internship in Internal Medicine, followed by residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Cleveland Clinic, where she served as Chief Resident. She then completed fellowship training in Gastrointestinal, Hepatic, and Pancreaticobiliary Pathology at Cleveland Clinic and Breast Pathology at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. She is certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Downs is an accomplished educator and researcher with interests in breast pathology, gastrointestinal pathology, molecular diagnostics, and biomarker evaluation. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications on breast cancer, gastrointestinal disease, and diagnostic pathology and serves as Co-Director of the Histology Laboratory at Mayo Clinic Arizona. She is an active member of the International Society of Breast Pathology, the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, the College of American Pathologists, and the American Society for Clinical Pathology. Her contributions to pathology education and patient care have been recognized with honors including the Outstanding Teaching Award in Anatomic Pathology from the University of Utah, the Joe Holden Award for Clinical Excellence in Anatomic Pathology, and the George C. Hoffman Resident Teaching Award.
