Dr. Erik Sloth, MD, Ph.D. is a Consultant Anesthetist and Professor of Point-Of-Care Ultrasound (PoCUS). He has authored 180 papers, primarily on hemodynamics and focused transthoracic echocardiography (TTE), and has supervised two cohorts of Ph.D. candidates. Professor Sloth developed the Focus Assessed Transthoracic Echocardiography (FATE) protocol almost 30 years ago, making him a PoCUS pioneer and leader in cardiac and pulmonary ultrasound (US).

Additionally, he was an early adaptor of the reverse classroom learning model by developing a pre-course online "e-learning" curriculum to be followed by a systematic and comprehensive hands-on training course. This course has been implemented successfully in more than 50 different countries and has been translated into 6 languages on the USabcd.org platform. Professor Sloth’s innovative idea that "all physicians should learn ultrasound of the heart of lung" has been the source of much debate over the course of his career; however, this idea is finally becoming a reality. By making ultrasound accessible to every clinician, Professor Sloth is one of the few physicians to create a true paradigm shift in anesthesia, critical- and intensive care.
