Eric Santoni-rugiu MD, PhD

Dr. Eric Santoni-Rugiu (ESR) is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and works as Consultant at the Department of Pathology of Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen University Hospital, where his main diagnostic area since 2005 has been thoracic pathology and molecular pathology. During these 12 years, he has been the responsible for pathological diagnostics of malignant pleural mesothelioma at Rigshospitalet, which is Scandinavian specialized referral center for the surgical and oncological treatment of this malignancy. ESR is a member of the International Mesothelioma Interest Group and the Advisory Board for Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma of the Danish National Board of Health.

ESR graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Pisa, Italy, in 1988 with highest marks cum laude. After residency, he obtained a Doctorate of Research and PhD in Tumor Morphology and Experimental Oncology at the Department of Pathology in Pisa in 1994. From 1993 to 1997, he was a Postdoc at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, USA, specializing in molecular pathology and carrying out research on human oncogenes.
