Dr. Eric Mercier, MSc, MD, FRCP, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Emergency at the Laval University. In addition to being a regular researcher at the Center for Research on Primary Care and Services at Laval University (CERSSPL-UL) and he is an associate researcher at the Center de recherche du CHU de Quebec-Universite Laval, local medical director of the CHIRP (Canadian Hospital Trauma Prevention Information and Research System), medical director of ITLS-Quebec (International trauma life support) and assistant medical director of the pre-hospital emergency services of the CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale. Since July 2019, he has also been an FRQS Junior 1 researcher-clinician.
His research focuses mainly on prehospital and emergency traumatology. His interests include the effectiveness of prehospital triage protocols, care trajectories, and avoidable trauma mortality. He is also interested in elder abuse and community paramedicine. His work has been published in reputable journals such as the BMJ, Journal of Neurotrauma, Resuscitation, Age and Aging, BMJ Open, Brain Injury, CMAJ Open, and Injury. He was recently a guest speaker at the International Federation for Emergency Medicine (ICEM) annual conference held in South Korea.
