Eric Masse, Ph.D. was Professor at Université de Sherbrooke, Canada. After completing his BSc in 1994, Pr Massé started his Ph.D. at the Université de Montréal under the supervision of Dr. Marc Drolet. There, he studied the role of topoisomerases in the regulation of RNA-DNA hybrids (R-loops) behind the RNA polymerase during transcription elongation. After graduating in 2000, he started his post-doctoral training at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology, NIH, in Bethesda where he worked under the supervision of Dr. Susan Gottesman.

During those years, he focused his work on a small regulatory RNA called RyhB, which controls the expression of mRNAs encoding iron-using proteins. He demonstrated that RyhB is itself regulated by intracellular iron concentration. In 2004, Pr Massé started his own lab at the Biochemistry Dept, University of Sherbrooke, Canada, where he focuses his work on sRNA mechanisms of action, including the study of RNase E and Hfq roles in the sRNA regulatory networks.
