Eric G. Pamer MD

Eric G. Pamer has been named Head of the Division of General Medicine in the Department of Medicine. The division comprises the cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology and nutrition, general internal medicine, geriatrics, infectious diseases, pulmonary, and renal services. Dr. Pamer succeeds Diane E. Stover, who is stepping down after 20 years of service in order to focus her energy on the Pulmonary Service (of which she is Chief), its training program, clinical practice, and her research and interest in smoking cessation for women.

An internationally recognized physician and scientist in the field of infectious disease and immunology research, Dr. Pamer has served for more than ten years as Chief of the Infectious Diseases Service. He also heads a laboratory in Sloan Kettering Institute’s Immunology Program and is the Director of the Lucille Castori Center for Microbes, Inflammation, and Cancer at Memorial Sloan Kettering. As a physician, Dr. Pamer specializes in the cancer-related infections that can occur when chemotherapy or bone marrow transplantation compromises the body’s immune system. His research focuses on how the immune system combats infection and how the microorganisms that normally inhabit the body protect against infection. After receiving his MD degree from Case Western Reserve University, Dr. Pamer completed his residency and a clinical fellowship at the University of California, San Diego. He was also a research fellow at the Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation. Before joining Memorial Sloan Kettering, he was an associate professor in the Department of Medicine and Section of Immunobiology at Yale University. Dr. Pamer is the incumbent of the Enid A. Haupt Chair in Clinical Investigation at Memorial Sloan Kettering.
