Eric Eggenberger DO, MSEpi

Eric R. Eggenberger, DO, is a distinguished neuro-ophthalmologist, neurologist, and researcher at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. He serves as Professor of Neurology, Professor of Ophthalmology, and Consultant in both the Departments of Ophthalmology and Neurosurgery. Widely recognized for his expertise in disorders affecting the visual pathways and nervous system, Dr. Eggenberger has dedicated his career to advancing the understanding and treatment of complex neuro-ophthalmic diseases.

Dr. Eggenberger's clinical and research interests focus on the intersection of neurology and vision, including optic neuropathies, multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica (NMO), myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG)-associated disease, idiopathic intracranial hypertension (pseudotumor cerebri), myasthenia gravis, nystagmus, diplopia, and visual complications arising from stroke, tumors, and other neurological disorders. His work emphasizes the use of advanced imaging techniques and eye movement analysis to better understand brain function and disease progression.

After earning a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Michigan State University, Dr. Eggenberger completed training in internal medicine and neurology at Loyola University Medical Center. He subsequently pursued a prestigious fellowship in Neuro-Ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute under internationally renowned mentors. He later earned a Master of Science in Epidemiology, further strengthening his research expertise.
