Erasmo Silva PhD

Dr. Erasmo Simao Da Silva, PhD, is a Vascular Surgeon at Hospital das Clínicas of the University of São Paulo. Graduated in Medicine from the University of São Paulo (1982) and PhD in Medicine (Surgical Clinic) from the University of São Paulo (1996). In 2005 he obtained the title of Habilitation Professor in a public contest by the Department of Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine of USP.

He is currently a Member-SOCIETY FOR VASCULAR SURGERY, Brazilian Chapter, and a Member of the European Society for Vascular Surgery. The main line of research is on the Study of the Biomechanical Properties of the Aorta and Arterial Aneurysms. In this area, he has partnerships with the Department of Bioengineering at the University of IOWA, USA, since 2001 and with the University of Montreal since 2016. In the line of research on Extracranial Brain Diseases, he is the Researcher Responsible and Performer in Brazil for ACST 2 (Asymptomatic Carotid Surgery Trial 2), the largest global study comparing the treatment of carotid angioplasty with carotid endarterectomy, since 2015.

His research interests are Vascular Surgery, Peripheral Vascular Surgery, Vascular Diseases, Cardiovascular Surgery, and General Surgery.
