Emmanuel P. Prokopakis MD, PhD

Emmanuel Prokopakis is a Professor of Otorhinolaryngology at the Medical School of the University of Crete. He is also the Director of the Otorhinolaryngology Clinic of the University Hospital of Heraklion, Crete. In the outpatient clinics and special units of the Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) department of the Heraklion University Hospital (Pagni), Mr. Prokopakis and his colleagues examine and operate on about 5,000 people every year.

In addition to his work with otorhinolaryngological diseases, in the ENT department of PAGNI, he trains medical students, specialist doctors of otorhinolaryngology and general medicine, postgraduate students, as well as foreign students of the Erasmus programs. At the same time, he is the Director of the Laboratory of Otology and Neuro otology of PAGNI. Since 2019 he is the official representative of the European Rhinologic Society in the "Expert Panel of Biomedical Alliance in Europe", in the European Commission. He is also responsible for the European Society of Rhinology for all clinical Delphi studies. In the period 2009-2010, he worked on a post-educational leave as a visiting Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology of the University of Leuven, Belgium. There he focused on the use of Lasers in ENT.

Mr. Prokopakis has written together with his colleagues in Europe and America many studies. Most recently, he participated in the European Predicta studies, on allergic rhinitis and nasal polyps. In the last year, he actively participates in the European Committee of experts for the introduction of biological agents in Chronic Nasal Sinusitis, as well as in the multicenter Rejection Study for rhinoplasty in the European Union. He also actively participates in the work of the European group ARIA (Allergic Rhinitis and its impact on Asthma), but also of EUFOREA (European Forum for Research and Education in Allergy and Airway Diseases) of which he is a member.

He is also an active member of several Academic Societies, such as the Hellenic Society of ENT - Head and Neck Surgery, the Belgian Royal Rhinologic Society, the International Rhinologic Society, the European Rhinologic Society, the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery, the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
