Emmanouil Galanakis graduated from the School of Medicine, University of Athens (1975-1981) and the School of Philosophy, University of Ioannina, Greece (1986-1991), and studied Theology at the University of Athens (1982-1986). He obtained a Doctoral Degree in Medicine (1993, Social Paediatrics) and in Philosophy (1996, Ethics). He has served as Fellow and Visiting Faculty in Hospitals and Universities in the UK (London, Newcastle upon Tyne and Oxford), the USA (Baltimore, MD and Seattle, WA), and in the European Centre for Disease Control (Stockholm).

He has been a clinician in Paediatrics and Infectious Diseases since 1990, University Hospitals of Ioannina and of Heraklion, and Lecturer (1999), Assistant Professor (2000), and Associate Professor (2009) at the Faculties of Medicine, Universities of Ioannina and Crete. Currently he is caring for sick children at the University Hospital of Heraklion, Crete and teaching Paediatrics, and Infectious Diseases to undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Crete. He is actively involved in medical research focusing on Infectious Diseases and Paediatrics and has relevant publications in major peer-reviewed international journals. He is currently a Board Member of the Hellenic and of the European Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases.
