Emma Stanmore PhD, MRes, BNurs (Hons), DN, RN

Dr. Emma is a Lecturer in Nursing at the University of Manchester with both a clinical and research background in using new innovations to improve healthcare for older people and those with musculoskeletal problems. Current projects involve the development of new technologies in rehabilitation and the development of Kinect exergame to improve function and prevent falls in older people and those with musculokeletal conditions such as rheumatoid and osteoarthritis.

Emma's PhD investigated the incidence of falls, prevalence of fear of falling and fall risk factors in adults with RA (funded by an Arthritis Research UK AHP Fellowship and the Wellcome Trust). Emma has research experience as PI on a number of quantitative and qualitative studies related to rehabilitation and integrated care and was awarded 2 best scientific abstract awards at international conferences in 2012-13 for her research investigating falls in adults with rheumatoid arthritis. Her research is informed by experience as a Specialist Community Practitioner, a Rehabilitation Project Manager, and a Clinical Manager of an interdisciplinary team. As well as the core clinical and managerial aspects of these roles, Emma worked on innovative projects such as introducing hospital at home for patients with chronic obstructive airways disease, training and implementing generic Rehabilitation Assistants and the introduction of training for care home staff to maintain standards and prevent unnecessary hospital admissions.
