Emily Gundert, M.D., is an Associate Professor with appointments to the Departments of Emergency Medicine and Anesthesia and Pain Management at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), cardiogenic shock, intermediate and high-risk pulmonary embolisms (PE), ECMO in PE, and extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR).
Dr. Gundert earned her medical degree at Eastern Virginia Medical School. She completed a residency in emergency medicine at Indiana University School of Medicine, where she also received advanced training through a fellowship in critical care. Certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and the American Board of Internal Medicine‘s critical care subspecialty, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2015.
Dr. Gundert is a member of several professional associations, including the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, the American Academy of Emergency Medicine, and the American College of Emergency Physicians. Her research interests include ECMO and right ventricular dysfunction in acute high-risk PE, ECMO in cardiac arrest and decompensated cardiac shock, and alternative blood products and resuscitation.
