Dr. Queiroz was born in Campina Grande (Paraíba, Brazil) in 1971. He studied pharmaceutical sciences at UFPB Federal University of Paraíba from 1989-1994. During this period he received the CNPq scholarship for the ‘scientific initiation program’. Later on, he was awarded by the prestigious RHAE-CNPq (Human Resources for Strategic Areas) scholarship of the Brazilian government to carry out his Ph.D. in the group of Prof. André Cavé´s, University of Paris XI. The aim of his work was the phytochemical study of two Annonaceae plants used in the Brazilian traditional Medicine. In 1999, he integrated Prof. Kurt Hostettmann’s group at University of Lausanne for a post-doctoral training. One year later he was promoted as ‘first assistant’. During this period his research was devoted to the development new strategies for the ‘on-line’ identification of bioactive NPs from higher plants based on hyphenated techniques (LC/NMR and LC/MS) and he was also actively involved in the structure elucidation of the isolated compounds from very diverse origin. In 2005 he received the Econatura prime by the Ecosol in association with the Societé Suisse de Phytotherapie Medicale for the important contribution in the research of medicinal plants. During the period between 2006-2011 he works as a scientific manager in the research and development department of the biggest pharmaceutical company in South America; Aché Laboratórios Farmacêuticos S.A. in São Paulo, Brazil.

He was in charge of managing projects for the development of innovative drugs derived from Brazilian biodiversity and lead R&D team. He was also in charge of the scientific networks in Brazil and abroad. The launch of the herbal drug Syntocalmy® in the Brazilian market in 2011 was one of his most important achievements during this period. In 2010, his bibliographic profile was published by George Washington University, Creative & Innovative Economy Center due to his contribution among the Brazilian industrial sector. Since Mai 2011, he is at Geneva University (group of Prof. Jean-Luc Wolfender) as a Senior Scientist (MER). His research is based on the development of methodologies for isolation of natural products on preparative scale and also miniaturized technological approaches for rapid and efficient identification of new drug-leads from natural sources. He has published 3 books, 10 book chapters, 90 research papers in international journals, 12 patents and has presented more than 100 contributions in international congress and symposiums. He wrote two books and several chapters on medicinal plants research. He is referee for over 15 International journals in natural product research and analytical chemistry. He is associate editor of the Journal of Brazilian Chemical Society, member of the editorial board of the review Phytochemistry (The International Journal of Plant Chemistry, Plant Biochemistry and Molecular Biology) and member of the board of directors of the Society for Medicinal Plant and Natural Product Research (GA).
