Dr. Emerson Y. Chen is an Assistant Professor at OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, South Waterfront. He specializes in caring for patients with gastrointestinal cancers, including cancers of the pancreas, liver, bile duct, esophagus, stomach, colon, and rectum. He has expertise in systemic cancer therapies, such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted agents. He is actively involved in clinical trials that study novel cancer drugs. Outside the clinic, he is also engaged in health services and policy research, especially in looking at how cancer drugs are regulated and approved in the United States. He has written a number of published research articles about gastrointestinal cancers, viral hepatitis, and the oncology drug approval process.
Dr. Chen grew up in Taiwan and Northern California before pursuing his medical education and training throughout the country. He loves music, art, and dance, and participates in many community events in the Portland area. He also enjoys jogging along the Willamette River and exploring the wondrous trails in the Pacific Northwest.
