Emanuele Marzetti is a board-certified Geriatrician, Clinical Assistant Professor in Geriatrics, and the leader of the orthogeriatric consultation team at the Department of Geriatrics, Neurosciences, and Orthopedics ("Agostino Gemelli" Teaching Hospital, Catholic University of the Sacred Heart School of Medicine, Rome, Italy). He received his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees at the Catholic University of Rome, in 1999 and 2002, respectively, and postdoctoral training in the biochemistry of aging from 2005 through 2007 at the Department of Aging and Geriatric Research at the University of Florida (Gainesville, Fla, USA). From 2008 to 2010, Dr. Marzetti held a Lecturer position in Biochemistry of Aging at the University of Florida. His research focuses on the mechanisms responsible for skeletal muscle and cardiovascular aging, with a special interest in mitochondrial pathophysiology, as well as the factors leading to frailty and disability in older patients with chronic degenerative conditions.
