Ella Smith

Ella Smith currently works as a Nurse Practitioner with Victoria Police overseeing the physical and mental health of detainees in police custody and she also works part-time in general practice. Ella studied with the University of Melbourne to complete a post-graduate diploma in Mental Health and Master of Advanced Nursing Practice (Nurse Practitioner). Ella worked with Uniting Care Regen in the adult drug and alcohol withdrawal unit for ten years and has worked with Victoria Police for eight years. Through both of these positions, Ella has accumulated extensive knowledge regarding drug and alcohol patients including management of intoxication and withdrawal. Ella is also accredited to prescribe methadone or suboxone for opiate dependent patients. Ella often sees dual diagnosis patients and aims to minimise harm caused to the individual by their substance use or exacerbation of their mental illness.
