Dr Elke Leuridan is a medical doctor who is currently working as a postdoctoral researcher within the Vaccine and Infectious Diseases Institute, Centre for the Evaluation of Vaccination, University of Antwerp, Belgium. She completed her M.D. degree from the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. After several years in clinical practice, including residencies in obstetrics and internal medicine, she joined in 2002 the Centre for the Evaluation of Vaccination.

She first combined research with clinical work in a health house for prostitutes. Since 2006, she focuses on research only. In 2012 she defended a PhD thesis on ‘Vaccine preventable diseases and maternal antibodies’. As postdoctoral researcher, she supervises a project on pertussis vaccination during pregnancy in Belgium and Vietnam. She is the promoter of a Vietnamese medical PhD student and a Belgian biomedical PhD student on the topic. She is involved in the training of medical students and supervises yearly several master and advanced master theses.
