Elise van Kempen works as a researcher and project leader at the Center for Sustainability, Environment, and Health (DMG) of the RIVM. Together with her colleagues, She is involved in research into the effects of environmental noise, among other things. Over the years she has mainly focused on the effects of exposure to environmental noise on the cardiovascular system and on children. This has resulted, among other things, in a dissertation and various publications in scientific journals. She is currently involved as a temporary advisor in the update of new health guidelines for noise from the WHO.

Elise also works part of my time for the Expertise Center for Sound. Finally, She also try the sound problem from the so-called "soundscape" In recent years she has also been working on projects within the theme "Healthy Urban Living". For example, in January 2015 she started the WAtsAP project as project leader. The goal is to develop a participatory neighborhood watch app with an accompanying data platform.
