Eleni Efstathiou MD, PhD

Eleni Efstathiou is an Associate Professor of Genitourinary Medical Oncology at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, USA, and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Therapeutics at the University of Athens Medical School, Greece. She leads the Stanford Alexander and Eckstein clinical/translational laboratories. Dr. Efstathiou has spearheaded tissue-based translational research in the field of prostate cancer through the GU MDACC bone marrow biopsy initiative and the high-risk preoperative platforms (more than 10 translational trials employing novel agents conducted in the past decade). Her scientific interests are androgen signaling, temporal heterogeneity of prostate cancer, and disease identification.

Dr. Efstathiou is a recipient of the Young Investigator and Career Development award by the Prostate Cancer Foundation. More recently she received the best Fundamental Paper award by the European Urologic Association for 2015. She serves as a scientific committee member of the APCCC and ESMO Prostate Cancer Track and a member of the working group of the International Society of Geriatric Oncology. She has published more than 120 peer-reviewed papers and serves as a reviewer for funding agencies and peer-review journals.
