Elena Salvaterra is a jurist doctor (JD) and Ph.D in Law of Science (Bioethics). After a few years spent at academia (University of Milan), she collaborated with the Biological Resource Center of the Polyclinic University Hospital in Milan as social scientist. She co-founded with Dr. Paolo Rebulla, hematologist, the Laboratory of Bio-Law, dedicated to the study of ethical, regulatory, economic and social aspects associated with therapeutic and research human biobanks. Then, she worked at the research institute “E. Medea” where she conducted several studies as principal investigator on pediatric biobanks.

Since 2010, Dr. Salvaterra collaborated with private national and international companies as regulatory support and marketing specialist. She is presently engaged as consultant for biobanks at Air Liquide Healthcare in Milan (Italy) and she is member of the Scientific Advisory Board of CloudLims. She is also collaborating with the University e-campus in Milan as scientific coordinator of the project “PixinBio”, intended to create multimedia education on biobanking and promoting citizen’s awareness on biobanks through an informative campaign on specimen donation for research.

Her research areas cover biobanks ELSI and economics, neuroethics and neurolaw, robo-ethics, ethical and regulatory issues of medical assisted procreation and ethics of euthanasia. She is author of several publications on the aforementioned topics with a focus on biobanks. She recently edited the book “Regulating biobanks in humans. The use of adult and children biomaterials for clinical and research purposes”. She is member of the Science and Policy Committee of ISBER and the Programme Committee of ISBER-2016. She is also founder member of ESBB and individual member of the Society for cryobiology
