Elena Barbon is a scientist in the Liver Gene Therapy Unit at the San Raffaele Telethon Institute for Gene Therapy (SR-TIGET) in Milan, where her research focuses on developing innovative in vivo gene-editing and liver-directed gene therapy approaches for rare genetic and metabolic diseases. She earned her PhD from the University of Ferrara, where her doctoral research centered on developing cellular and animal models to evaluate novel therapeutic strategies for coagulation factor deficiencies.

Her current work combines translational gene therapy, genome editing, and vector engineering to advance safer and more effective treatments for inherited disorders. At SR-TIGET, she has contributed to preclinical studies exploring integrative lentiviral vector–based therapies and liver-targeted genome editing technologies, with applications in metabolic and hematological diseases.
