Elena graduated from the University of Cambridge and completed core psychiatry training in Nottingham, where she developed an interest in leadership and management at national level. She became actively involved in local service development and with the Psychiatric Trainees’ Committee, RCPsych, where she was vice-chair. She is passionate about engaging trainees and established a national higher trainees’ group in general adult psychiatry, founding their annual conference. Elena completed a masters in clinical psychiatry where she undertook research to develop screening tools to detect psychological symptoms in patients receiving chemotherapy, which she presented internationally. Clinical interests include neuropsychiatry, liaison, and perinatal psychiatry. She also has an interest in medical law and ethics and is undertaking an LLM.
Elena completed a chief resident programme through the Judge Business School and was involved in running a leadership and management course for higher trainees in psychiatry. She was presented with the East of England trainee leader of the year award in 2014. Elena maintains her passion for improving standards of patient care. She is interested in the health and morale of staff and was a doctor advisor with the Psychiatrists’ Support Service for 9 years. She also set up a mentoring scheme in a local Trust. Elena looks forward to working with St Andrew’s Healthcare and the Royal College of Psychiatrists. She hopes to improve her understanding of the interplay between national bodies and local services, especially in considering ways to engage staff across organisations and ensure that voices of frontline staff are heard.
