Eleanor qualified from Nottingham Medical School in 1992. She was appointed to her current post in Leeds in 2003. She integrates delivering clinical care with performing clinical research leading the successful translational multi-disciplinary research group TIME (Temporal Influences on Metabolic Events) investigating the role of sleep and the circadian clock in glucose metabolism and cardiovascular disease.

Her group have developed novel techniques of analysing complex data obtained by 24hr continuous glucose monitoring and applied it to understand the temporal glucose profiles that are associated with poorer outcomes in diabetic pregnancy, how these temporal glucose profiles overnight can be improved by the artificial pancreas and more recently the interaction between sleep and temporal glucose control.

She is particularly interested in developing novel strategies to improve glucose control across the 24 hour day. She was awarded the EASD Joseph Hoet Award for research excellence in the field of diabetes in pregnancy in 2017, and awarded 'Highly Commended' in the BMJ awards Diabetes team of the year 2016.
