Elaine Yu, MD, MMSc is an academic clinical investigator and a board-certified endocrinologist at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in Boston. She is currently the Director of the MGH Bone Density Center and Assistant Professor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School. She graduated from Harvard University with an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry, and completed medical school and Internal Medicine residency at the University of California, San Francisco. She subsequently completed her fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at MGH. She also holds a Masters in Clinical and Translational Research from the Harvard Medical School. She currently serves as the Principal Investigator of several studies characterizing the long-term effects of bariatric surgery on skeletal strength and fracture risk. She is also leading a novel randomized clinical trial to investigate how altering gut bacteria through fecal microbiota transplantation may affect human body weight and metabolism.
