Edward Darling, MS, CCP is an Associate Professor & Clinical Education Coordinator in the Cardiovascular Perfusion Department at a respected medical university. He has a 30-year history of continuous clinical service in pediatric & adult CPB and ECMO. From 1990-2000, he was a staff perfusionist and ECMO liaison at Duke Hospital, Durham, NC. He has also served as an adjunct instructor for Syracuse University BioEngineering Neuroscience program.

Mr. Darling is a recognized leader in perfusion education, in national and local professional perfusion organizations, and in scientific publications. Mr. Darling has authored and co-authored more than 50 scientific publications in the refereed perfusion literature including award-winning presentations, manuscripts, and posters. In 2010, he served as the president of the American Academy of Cardiovascular Perfusion and in 2014 received the AmSECT Award of Excellence. When serving as chair of the AmSECT Pediatric committee he was instrumental in developing a joint meeting with the ExtraCorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO).

Mr. Darling’s ECMO experience began in 1986 at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans where, as a member of the perfusion department, he was involved in the set-up, initiation, management, and training in a busy neonatal respiratory ECMO program. Mr. Darling’s ECMO experiences at Duke Hospital were extensive and included adult, pediatric, and neonatal ECMO clinical work as well as education and training of the ECMO specialist team. Currently, Mr. Darling is an ECMO consultant perfusionist at Crouse Hospital with clinical responsibilities that include set-up, initiation, troubleshooting/intervention, rounding, and weaning. Administrative responsibilities focus on continued education, training, and competency assessment of the ECMO specialist team. He performs per diem ECMO support for 5 other hospitals in central New York. He is now making this experience and expertise as an ECMO educator available more widely through the Extracorporeal Technology Consultants group.
