Edward John Novotny MD

Dr. Edward John Novotny, MD, is a nationally recognized pediatric neurologist and physician-scientist specializing in epilepsy. He serves as Director of the Epilepsy Program at Seattle Children’s Hospital and is a Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine.

Dr. Novotny leads one of the nation’s premier pediatric epilepsy programs, a Level 4 epilepsy center that provides advanced diagnostic, medical, and surgical care for children with complex seizure disorders. In his leadership role, he oversees a multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering comprehensive, patient-centered care and advancing innovative treatment approaches.

Clinically, Dr. Novotny specializes in pediatric epilepsy, clinical neurophysiology, and epilepsy surgery, with particular expertise in the use of advanced neuroimaging and multimodal diagnostic techniques. His work focuses on improving surgical evaluation and outcomes for children with medically refractory epilepsy.

In addition to his clinical leadership, Dr. Novotny is an accomplished researcher whose work explores the use of technologies such as EEG, functional MRI, and intracranial monitoring to better understand seizure networks and guide treatment. He has led and collaborated on numerous research initiatives and clinical trials aimed at advancing care for children with epilepsy.
