Edward Alan Stenehjem MD, MSc

Eddie Stenehjem, MD, MSc, is the medical director of Intermountain’s Urban Central Region Antimicrobial Stewardship Program and Co-chair of the corporation’s Antimicrobial Stewardship committee. Dr. Stenehjem has an active infectious disease practice at Intermountain Medical Center and LDS Hospital and is heavily involved in the education of Internal Medicine and Transitional Year residents at Intermountain Medical Center.

After earning his medical degree from Saint Louis University School of Medicine, Dr. Stenehjem completed his medical residency and chief residency at the University of Colorado. Dr. Stenehjem was trained in infectious diseases at Emory University in Atlanta, GA, and completed a Master of Science in a clinical research degree at Emory’s Laney Graduate School. Dr. Stenehjem was recruited to Intermountain in 2012 to develop and lead antimicrobial stewardship efforts across the corporation.

Dr. Stenehjem’s research interests include the development and measurement of antimicrobial stewardship interventions to promote the rational use of antimicrobials while reducing antimicrobial resistance. Dr. Stenehjem is the principal investigator of the SCORE study (Stewardship in Community Hospitals – Optimizing Outcomes and Resources), one of the largest antimicrobial stewardship studies performed in the United States.
