Eduardo E. Benarroch, MD, is a distinguished neurologist, neuroscientist, and Professor of Neurology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Internationally recognized for his pioneering work in autonomic neuroscience and neurodegenerative disorders, Dr. Benarroch has made major contributions to understanding the neural mechanisms underlying Parkinson’s disease, multiple system atrophy, Lewy body disorders, and autonomic dysfunction.

Dr. Benarroch earned his medical degree and Doctor of Science in Physiology from Buenos Aires University Medical College in Argentina. He completed residency training in internal medicine and neurology before pursuing advanced fellowships in neurobiology and clinical autonomic physiology, including NIH-supported research training at Cornell University Medical College and Mayo Clinic. He later joined the Mayo Clinic faculty, where he became a leading authority in autonomic and neurodegenerative neuroscience.

His research focuses on neurochemically defined neuronal systems within the brainstem and hypothalamus that regulate homeostasis and autonomic function. Dr. Benarroch’s investigations have advanced scientific understanding of disorders such as multiple system atrophy, Parkinson’s disease, and Lewy body dementia, particularly regarding autonomic, respiratory, and sleep dysfunction. He has also published extensively on synaptic plasticity, neurotransmitter systems, ion channels, neuroimmunology, and cellular mechanisms involved in neurological disease.

A prolific academic author and educator, Dr. Benarroch has written hundreds of peer-reviewed articles, reviews, and textbook chapters in clinical neuroscience and neurology. His influential publications in journals such as Neurology and Cell and Tissue Research have helped bridge basic neuroscience with clinical neurological practice.

Throughout his career, Dr. Benarroch has received numerous honors for excellence in teaching and neurological education, including the prestigious A.B. Baker Award for Lifetime Achievement in Neurologic Education from the American Academy of Neurology. He has served in leadership positions within the American Autonomic Society and the American Academy of Neurology and remains highly respected for his mentorship of medical students, residents, fellows, and neuroscience researchers worldwide.
